michael lau x nike.

"Here is the finished collection of Nike Pro Athlete characterisations by Michael Lau. They stand at a huge 20″ and as we guessed, they are wearing authentic Nike Pro apparel - real fabric with sweat-tech-stuff or whatever it was called. Each one coming with it’s own accessory (Ronaldinho with a football, Kobe Bryant holding a basketball and Roger Federer holding a tennis racket).

However, for all you hardcore collectors - they are not being produced for retail.

They will feature in a charity auction in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, you may be able to get a look at them in the vinyl flesh when they go on display in Nike Stores around the world."

google 411.

just heard about google 411. maybe i'm the last to hear about this, so i apologize if this is old news. taken from google 411's page:

"To try this service, just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone.Using this service, you can: search for a local business by name or category. You can say "Giovanni's Pizzeria" or just "pizza". Get connected to the business, free of charge. Get the details by SMS if you’re using a mobile phone. just say "text message".

And it's free. Google doesn’t charge you a thing for the call or for connecting you to the business. Regular phone charges may apply, based on your telephone service provider.

note: Google Voice Local Search is still in its experimental stage. It may not be available at all times and may not work for all users. We’re fine-tuning the service to get better at recognizing your requests. It’s currently only available in English, in the US, for US business listings."

the perfect wedding invite.

proving simple is always better, artist Chris Maclean created a beautifully original wedding invitation. in his words:

"Simply removing the dot from the word ‘claire’ reveals the word ‘dave’ proving that they really were meant to be together. The word ‘dave’ was printed in metallic blue on uncoated white stock and covered by a translucent stock which carried the dot of the ‘i’ and the wedding details on the reverse. The two sheets were then stitched together with white cotton. Entered into D&AD 2007 Annual. Won Gold in the New York Festivals."

well done.

daft punk is going on my shelf.

it's common knowledge that i love robots (in general). it's also common knowledge that i love toys (designer). it isn't common knowledge, however, that i love daft punk. for those that don't know, daft punk is a band. while i genuinely enjoy their music, i am more obsessed with their attire. they dress up as robots. they wear AMAZING futuristic helmets. if only i had one of my own. for halloween. for every day. it would be perfect. just look at the pictures!

anyway.

about a year ago, in japan, daft punk kubrick's (mini toys) were released and limited to 3000 pieces. i remember thinking at the time how much i'd like to add them to my collection. look at the pictures at the bottom. it doesn't get much sweeter. but the price was steep. so i showed remarkable restraint.

until today. i stumbled upon them again and it jarred me. something in me told me i had to have them. but they were sold out everywhere. except for...would you believe it? amazon. they had 1 left. (you had to buy this special import cd -- the kubrick's came with it). was this meant to be? oh yeah. my daft punk robots are on their way.
