ping-pong.
"PT3 (PUMA Table Tennis Tournament) was conceived in the beginning of 2006 based on a simple idea: to bring a community together for the sheer passion of table tennis, more affectionately known as ping-pong. In conjunction with the forthcoming launch of French 77, a sports lifestyle collection inspired by the style and clothing of Argentinian tennis player Guillermo Vilas, PT3 pits thirty-two teams against each other. Comprised of masters from the city’s creative underground, teams from Formavision, Syrup, Psyop, Rude Movements, joao, 2x4, Staple Design, Chez Music, Flavorpill, Truth and Soul Records, and many more battle it out to the end for the title of PT3 champion.
PT3 will also feature limited edition paddle sets designed by long-time pong enthusiast Johan Liden from the New York-based creative agency aruliden. With sophisticated lines and high-gloss finish, the ‘PT3 Ultramagnetic Collection’ elevates the art of the game to new aesthetic heights.
PT3 is testament to the universal appeal of the game. Equally, it is much about the way community and creativity come together through sports culture."

the green curve.
I've been meaning to post about the BP gas station on the corner of Olympic and Robertson for some time now. If you haven't driven past it, it's not your ordinary gas station. It's eco-friendly in its design and materials and use of water and energy. It looks futuristic, it glows at night -- and it's the the best "gassing" experience you'll ever have (well, i guess that could be debatable). By the way, is "gassing" even a word?
A few highlights:
-The ground is made of recycled glass.
-Hand sanitizing wipes are at the ready.
-The roof/ceiling is solar-paneled.
-The pamphlets that have earth-friendly tips are made of recycled paper and have seeds in them -- so you can actually wet the paper, put it under some soil and watch plants grow.
Click HERE and find out more info. Click the items on the left (Water, Facility, Materials, Lighting). It's fascinating and completely worth your time.
Oh yeah, there's even a "concierge" -- a person who will answer your questions and explain what BP is trying to do... Crazy. I've also heard the bathrooms are really cool. Next time I go, I'll have to go.
So do yourself a favor and get gas from this station. I'm sure more will open in the future. But it's important to support a company like BP. So go get your gas on and enjoy.

kings road.
i've been meaning to post about kings road for a while now. it's a great place for breakfast -- the french toast is always great, the strawberries fresh and the bacon cooked perfectly (except for the lone time it was burnt...although even then, it wasn't bad). margaux also swears by the coffee. her cup is usually downed before i'm even able to order my food.
sidenote: i've never ordered anything but the french toast. we've gone with people who love the omelettes. i'm sure most of the menu is good. but i'm always content with my french toast.

signal cell.
"The Signal Cell Phone Advisor offers a calming way to take a call in the office or any space in which you want your ringer turned off. The small cup receives radio waves as a call comes in to your phone and blinks accordingly. The frosted plastic ensures that the blinking won't be any more annoying than the ringing would." via productdose.

sf jell-o.
from artist Liz Hickok:
"This project consists of photographs and video, which depict various San Francisco landscapes. I make the landscapes by constructing scale models of the architectural elements which I use to make molds. I then cast the buildings in Jell-O. Similar to making a movie set, I add backdrops, which I often paint, and elements such as mountains or trees, and then I dramatically light the scenes from the back or underneath. The Jell-O sculptures quickly decay, leaving the photographs and video as the remains."
